Don’t put anything on your skin that you wouldn’t put in your mouth.
Our skin absorbs what we put on it directly into our bodies, whether that substance is healthy or unhealthy. We need to make sure we are using hair and body care products that are free of parabens, formaldehydes and other harsh unhealthy ingredients. The average person uses 9-13 skin and body care products each and every day – face and body wash, lotions and creams, make-up products, deodorants, shaving cream and after shave, toothpaste, and the list goes on. Nine to 13 products every day for 20, 30, 40, 50+ years. Do you ever wonder about the cumulative effect of these chemicals on our health? Read the labels on your skincare and body care products!
Avoid these . . .
- Parabens: Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, Butyl Paraben, Ethyl Paraben, Isobutyl Paraben
- Formeldehydes: Diazolidinyl Urea, DMDM Hydantoin, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Sodium Hydroxymethylgylcinate, Quanternium
- Natural ingredients that irritate and harm the skin: mint/menthol/wintergreen, withch hazel, acetone, rosemary extract, citrus oils, ylang ylang, rose flower oil, clove, cinamon, pine oil
Reduce Dairy Consumption . . . or Eliminate Entirely
Dairy contains casomorphins, which are protein fragments from the digestion of the milk protein and these casomorphins have an opioid effect on your body. Concentrated dairy products, like cheese, have higher high levels of casomorphins. Ah Ha! That’s why we love cheese and have a hard time cutting back. Now think about ice cream – sugar with opiods! Dairy also contains hormones that are designed to turn baby calves into cows . . . which is good if you are a calf. Not so good if you are a human. In addition, the hormones in dairy have been linked to acne, weight gain, and other hormonal issues. A better choice – nut milks. But avoid the chemically processed and sugar varieties.
Drink More Water
Hydration is critical for cell function and detoxification. Drinking 2 litres of purified or filtered water everyday can improve your complexion, boost your immune system, improve digestion, support weight loss, and improve your concentration and energy. If you frequently feel tired in the mid afternoon, it may be dehydration. Think about how much water you have consumed that day before you grab a cuppa joe to pick you up. Drink a glass of water upon rising to rehydrate your body after sleep. Room temperature water with the juice of 1/2 a fresh lemon with a few shakes of cayenne pepper first thing in the morning is great for digestion and circulation. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially in hot weather or when exercising. Drink between meals, not with meals. Drinking with meals dilutes your digestive enzymes and stomach acid, interfering with proper digestion.
